Treatment of vertebral hernia for the beginning should be directed to elimination of the factors causing such pathology: normalization of a metabolism, improvement of microcirculation of blood, reduction of a load on joints, elimination of muscular tension.

In the treatment of vertebral hernia, several directions can be distinguished:

  • etiotropic treatment of vertebral hernia - aimed at finding and neutralizing the cause of the disease. It is a very effective method of treatment, it allows not only to minimize the symptoms of the disease, but also to prevent its development. The basic principles of this method are the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, the use of products beneficial for the body, moderate physical activity, physical therapy exercises with the aim to resume the natural functioning of vertebral joints and disks.
  • pathogenetic treatment of vertebral hernia - the impact on mechanisms that contribute to the progression of the disease (for example, acupuncture.)
  • symptomatic treatment of vertebral hernia is aimed at eliminating external signs of existing pathology.

Treatment of vertebral hernia: an overview of the main methods

  • Cryotherapy is a method of auxiliary therapy. It is the local application of cold with liquid nitrogen. It allows to improve blood circulation in the damaged area, reduce the edema of the nerve roots, increase the ability of tissues to recover.
  • Hirudotherapy - treatment with leeches. This method has a fairly good effect by saturating the body with bioactive substances, it is carried out strictly under the supervision of a doctor.
  • Laser therapy - irradiation of the affected area without damage to the disk. The advantage of this method is the low probability of recurrence of the disease.
  • Extension of the spine (horizontal or vertical) - allows you to reduce compression on the nerve roots, edema of nearby tissues, muscle tension and tendons.
  • Reflexotherapy - allows to ease pain, to remove puffiness. It is carried out by introducing special needles in bioactive points, has a calming and restoring effect.
  • Electrophoresis is a common method of physiotherapy, in which the body is simultaneously exposed to electric current and drugs.
  • Vacuum therapy (treatment with vacuum cans) - a method that allows you to quickly and painlessly stop pain, activates microcirculation of fluid in the body, neutralizes toxins.
  • Manual therapy is a method aimed at normalizing the volume of movement of the vertebral joints, increases the elasticity of the muscular and ligamentous apparatus by applying the hands to both individual vertebrae and entire segments of the spine. This procedure should be carried out only by an experienced specialist, otherwise the body can be irreparably damaged. The interval between sessions can be from one to seven days.
  • Magnetopuncture is the action of bioactive points by a constant or alternating magnetic field.
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - reduce pain, stiffness, swelling of the joints, promote an increase in the volume of movements. Drugs of this group include movalis, rheumoxicam, diclofenac, piroxicam, indomethacin, ketaprofen.
  • Applications with the dilution of dimexide, novocaine and hydrocortisone to the affected area.
  • Drugs that relieve muscle spasm - sirdalud, baclofen, myolastane.
  • Vitaminotherapy - intramuscularly prescribed the introduction of vitamin B, as well as C and E for the elimination of neurological disorders provoked by this disease, improve the sensitivity of tissues.
  • Chondroprotectors - with their help the regeneration process takes place and the degeneration of the cartilaginous tissue slows down, it is possible to use glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate. Applied mainly as a recovery treatment.

It should be clearly understood that the treatment of vertebral hernia can not be successful with just one medication, they have only an additional action to alleviate the symptoms of the disease.

Massage procedures for vertebral hernia should be carried out using soft and gentle techniques. Careless manipulation can provoke serious complications, dramatically worsen the condition.

Surgical treatment of vertebral hernia is prescribed, if after the conservative treatment there is no positive effect.
