Thanks to the biologically active substances that are contained in the roots of black radish, the radish juice from cough for colds - especially in combination with honey - is not only an effective expectorant, but also helps to cope with the inflammation of the upper respiratory tract accompanied by a cough.

What kind of cough does radish help with honey? It can be said that indications for the use of black radish juice include both cough with thick phlegm, and throat-stifling dry cough with whooping cough. This remedy is not used only for allergic cough and asthmatic bronchitis.

How does the radish juice from coughing?

Pharmacodynamics juice radish, of course, is nowhere described, but, as is known, the therapeutic effect of any plant-derived agent is always due to their biochemical composition. So, valuable substances  black radish  (not red, not white, not green, namely black!) Contains plenty, like many of its "relatives" of the cruciferous family.

First, it's vitamins: ascorbic, pantothenic and folic acid (that is vitamins C, B5 and B9); carotene (provitamin A), thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3 or PP), and pyridoxine (B6). Moreover, the antioxidant vitamin C accounts for a quarter of the vitamin arsenal of black radish juice from cough. It is by increasing the resistance of cells to oxidative processes reduces inflammation of the mucous membranes and activates the immune system. Niacin provides capillary blood flow (i.e., supply of mucous tissues with oxygen), and vitamin B5 performs another important function: it helps to restore cells of the mucous epithelium, including the respiratory tract.

Secondly, in the juice of fresh black radish there are potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, copper, zinc and selenium, which support the normal fermentative process and intracellular metabolism.

In addition, isothiocyanates (raphanol and glucorafanin) and allylthiothiocyanate (mustard oil glucoside) play an important role-compounds containing sulfur and having not only bactericidal properties, but also stimulating endocrine glands.

Also, radish juice from cough contains flavonoid kaempferol and a hydrolase antimicrobial enzyme lysozyme. Kempferol inhibits or reduces the activity of virus enzymes (protease, transcriptase, neuraminidase), and lysozyme is capable of destroying the membranes of cells of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

Supplement the therapeutic effect of black radish with cough phenolic compounds (polyphenols) in the form of hydroxybenzoic acids - gallic, salicylic and vanilla, which have antimicrobial, astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.

How to prepare radish from cough?

Some recipes of radish from cough, which can be found on the Internet, to put it mildly, are misleading. For example, the recommended cough syrup with radish should not be cooked: heat treatment destroys the most useful flavonoids and phenolic substances of radish and at least half of vitamins.

So you need to cook either fresh radish juice with honey from a cough, or make a radish with sugar from the cough - also without any heating.

In the first recipe, in the thoroughly washed large enough root crop, the upper part is cut and a part of the pulp is removed (it is dense, so it is better to cut it out a little with a vegetable knife with a short blade). The resulting indentation put a tablespoon of liquid honey, radishes need to top tightly (you can wrap cling film or foil) and put in a deep plate or bowl. At normal room temperature, the juice will be ready in three to four hours. The second method - faster: peeled root vegetable grate, pressed juice and mixed with the same liquid honey (in a proportion of 3: 1).

A radish with sugar from cough is prepared similarly to the first method of radish with honey, but a table spoon of sugar is poured into the cavity. You can also finely chop the radish pulp, sprinkle it with sugar (its amount should be about the same as the chopped root) and fold it into a glass container, closing it with a lid. By the way, when using sugar, the juice from radish stands out faster, and it turns out more.

How to take radish from a cough?

It is clear that the way this drug is used is to take the juice inside. Radish with an adult cough is taken on a tablespoon - up to five times during the day (not on an empty stomach).

The dose of radish juice with honey from children's coughs: one teaspoon three to four times a day for a child of one and a half to two to five years, a dessert spoon - from five to ten years, children over 10 can give a tablespoon three times a day .

Side effects

Juice radish has side effects: diuretic, choleretic and light laxative (due to activation of motility of the urinary and gallbladder and intestines). Although it is due to these effects, it is used in the presence of appropriate diseases of the gallbladder, pancreas or liver. Radish stimulates the activity of the salivary glands (and therefore can be increased salivation), secretion of gastric juice and pancreatic enzymes (which increases appetite). There may also be a belching and increased formation of intestinal gases (flatulence). And with problems with the stomach is likely to cause heartburn or nausea.

Contraindications

Despite the fact that the radish juice from cough is a natural remedy without any "chemistry", it is contraindicated to use it in the presence of an anamnesis:

  • gastritis and gastroduodenitis;
  • gastric ulcer and / or duodenal ulcer;
  • inflammation of the colon (colitis, enteritis, Crohn's disease);
  • renal failure, nephritis, hepatitis.

Mustard oils, based on sulfur-containing isothiocyanates, interfere with the absorption of iodine and reduce the synthesis of hormones by the thyroid gland, therefore in no radish species is not used in hypothyroidism.

Although reviews on the use of pregnant women with cough radish juice with honey or sugar, too, can be found in some online sources, they should not be believed. Given the above side effects of radish juice, its use during pregnancy is also included in the list of contraindications.

Storage conditions and shelf life

A serving of juice is prepared for one day, stored at normal temperature and can be used for 24 hours. If necessary, continue treatment of cough with this remedy should be prepared fresh juice.
