Short cervix provides a lot of problems during pregnancy, because it does not fix the uterus. Accordingly, this threatens miscarriage or premature birth - the most dangerous and undesirable consequences. That is why it is so important to diagnose pathology in time and take appropriate measures to control the situation.

Short cervix in pregnancy can be less than 2-cm, which is confirmed by medical research (in particular, transvaginal ultrasound). The earlier this pathology is revealed, the greater the chances of maintaining pregnancy and preventing the development of dangerous complications. If a woman has a history of pregnancy, which resulted in miscarriages, she must without fail inform the doctor-gynecologist about it. In this case, the monitoring of the neck will be carried out more often, starting from 12-16 weeks.

The pathological condition, called " Isthmiko-cervical insufficiency ", is defined at a length of the neck less than 2 cm and the diameter of the internal pharynx is more than 1 cm. After setting such a diagnosis, the future mother is prescribed corrective therapy.

Based on the state of the uterine neck, both surgical and conservative treatment can be used. Special drugs will help with hormonal failure, which provoked the problem. Stitching on the uterus is provided for complications, when conservative treatment did not give the desired results. A gynecological ring may also be used, which will prevent the cervix from opening before the due date.

Pregnancy with a short cervix

Short cervix and pregnancy is a dangerous tandem. Usually the neck is shortened when preparing the female body for childbirth (in the last months of bearing a child). In this case, the internal pharynx is widened, and then labor begins. However, there are cases when this process begins before the due date. The reason for this is the fetal pressure on the softened shortened neck and its premature opening. This is an ishmiko-cervical insufficiency - a dangerous condition that can cause such consequences as miscarriage or premature birth, which is extremely undesirable for a woman who decided to become a mother.

Pregnancy with a short cervix is characterized by complications, therefore it should be monitored more carefully, using special monitoring studies. If transvaginal ultrasound, carried out in the I-II trimester, showed a shortening of the uterine neck to 2-3 cm, there is reason to talk about the presence of ICI.

If the pathology is caused by hormonal reorganization of the female body against the background of an excess of androgens, in most cases the condition can be stabilized with the help of hormonal therapy. In addition, the pregnant woman must adhere to certain rules: to comply with bed rest, reduce physical activity, if necessary - use an antenatal bandage, and follow all the recommendations of a gynecologist. In especially severe cases, a pregnant woman is prescribed hospital treatment, which involves the installation of a gynecological ring (obstetric pessary) to maintain the uterus in a physiologically normal state.

Surgical correction (so-called "cervical cerclage") is prescribed in critical situations, when the length of the neck is less than 2 cm. At the same time, the gestation period should not exceed 27 weeks. The superimposed seams are removed immediately at the very beginning of labor (after the withdrawal of water or during fights).

The main thing is to timely identify the pathology and immediately take the necessary measures aimed at maintaining the pregnancy. The future mother should take care of her health (often rest, reduce stress, lead a quiet lifestyle, regularly consult with her doctor).

Short cervix and sex

The short cervix is an unfavorable factor that affects the course of pregnancy and often provokes such dangerous complications as a threat of miscarriage and premature birth. A woman with such a diagnosis needs to cherish herself for the sake of the baby. This concerns restrictions in both physical activity and sex.

Short cervix and sex are incompatible if there is a threat of abortion. Especially in the first trimester, if the future mother is experiencing the development of ischemic-cervical insufficiency and there are dangerous signs: abundant discharge from the vagina and bleeding. To avoid complications, partners do not recommend the use of oral sex and other forms of sexual satisfaction. This is due to the fact that with the threat of miscarriage, even minimal uterine contractions can cause dangerous consequences, i.e. Miscarriage or premature birth. Future parents should understand that in this situation it is very important to abstain from sexual activity, because it is about the health of a woman and their unborn child.

Anxiety symptoms of a dysfunctional pregnancy that should alert a woman include abdominal pains, spotting, a feeling of heaviness and discomfort in the lower abdomen (can signal the hypertension of the uterus). Faced with such signs indicating a threat of pregnancy breakdown, the expectant mother needs to maintain sexual rest and immediately consult her doctor.

Short cervix in childbirth

A short cervix of the uterus (if it is observed in a pregnant woman in the prenatal period) is a natural phenomenon. Rather, we are talking about its shortening, which indicates the preparation of the uterus directly to the very process of delivery. However, when it comes to pathology (the length of the organ is less than 2 cm), there is a risk of developing rapid delivery, which can lead to rupture of the vagina and directly the cervical canal itself.

Short cervix during childbirth is a real danger to the health of women, so in order to avoid problems associated with rapid birth, the pregnant woman should regularly undergo a medical examination and strictly follow all the recommendations and prescriptions of the doctor.

The issue regarding the length of the uterine neck, obstetricians-gynecologists pay special attention, since this indicator is of great importance, both at the planning stage of conception, and throughout the period of gestation of the baby. Pregnant women, who were diagnosed with this pathology, are registered because of the threat of miscarriage. One should also remember about such a dangerous condition as ischemic-cervical insufficiency, which can lead to premature opening of the uterine neck, which means - to unscheduled births or spontaneous abortion.
